Known as “The Bald Eagle” as much for his sturdy leadership as his prematurely receding hairline, Tittle played 17 seasons of pro football. He began with the All-America Football Conference’s Baltimore Colts in 1948 and finished with the NFL’s New York Giants. He played 10 years in between with the San Francisco 49ers, but had his greatest success in New York, leading the Giants to three division titles in four years in a remarkable late-career surge.

I was a teen living in the NYC area back then, and Tittle was considered a god.

Probably the most iconic picture in NFL history.

I think that picture is after the Bears beat the hell out of him in the ‘63 Championship game. RIP Y.A.

That’s how bad the Giants are this year, even he couldn’t handle.

I think of what he would say about all the proset nonsense today. For that matter the MEN he played with and for on those teams . . .

I would love to see just how much they would excoriate these traitors.

Why has no one asked Mike Ditka what he thinks? Wait a minute I know EXACTLY why

Add to that how bad his Alma Mater looks this year, it was probably just too much.

I've been Big Blue fan for 60+ years and this current team is just pitiful ... but at least I don't have to watch them.

Wow, probably the first “football hero” I was aware of....as one who never really went in for football.

I saw Tittle play in Kezar with the Niners. Great times. Those great times, and now Y.A. Tittle, are gone forever.

R.I.P.

They beat my Gators. Though that's not saying much these days.

Hope Tittle was unable to truly grasp the nature of the NFL these days.

Sad to think he’d have to go out while they are stinking up the place.

I was young teenage girl living in Rochester, NY in the 60's, and remember Tittle. My Dad used to watch all the games. I even remember him mentioning Chick Jagade. My Dad was a Browns fan.

RIP Mr. Tittle.
