The source is a left-wing paper, so I will have to unpack the lead sentence (and the entire article).
The senior partner in the current 'grand coalition' government is the center-left Social Democrats, and the junior partner is the center-right Peoples Party. In the polls, the Peoples Party is well ahead, in the high 30s, with the populist-right Freedom Party in second place, in the high 20s. The Social Democrats are in third place, in the low 20s.
Earlier this year, the Peoples Party elected a new leader, a young fellow named Sebastian Kurz, who said he would not rule out forming a ruling coalition with the Freedom Party. This propelled his party into the lead. Recently, the Social Democrats have been engulfed in some kind of a scandal, causing them to fall back. There are several minor parties, but barring a tremendous surprise, they'll be inconsequential.
At this point, it looks as though the next government will be lead by the Peoples Party supported by either the Social Democrats or the Freedom Party. Here's hoping it will be an all-right coalition.
The world is getting to be an interesting place
I certainly hope they work with the Freedom party, it was disappointing last time that they chose to instead be Jrs in an accursed grand coalition.
Meanwhile in Germany, Merkel seems to trying hard for “Jamaica” which sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
Black and Blue would give her a more stable coalition, and the CDU could control most of the important ministries. AfD would probably settle for Interior and some minor posts.
But the ex Communist Agit-Prop leader isn't going to go that route.
A center left party is having a scandal? I’m surprised...(not). Who is the leader Hillary Clinton? :-)
