I’ve wondered with all the smoke, why didn’t the sprinklers come on? Maybe that’s something else they’re covering up.

Automatic Fire Sprinklers are not activated by smoke. In general they are activated by a rise in temperature that causes a fusible link in the sprinkler head(s) to melt and open causing water flow. Fire alarms are activated by smoke (and some by heat, too).
