Flake Vulnerable In GOP Primary As Trump Allies Seek To Topple Senator

PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake’s re-election race is becoming a case study in the GOP’s convulsions between the establishment, a furious base and angry donors.

After bucking Donald Trump in a state the president won, Flake is bottoming out in polls. Yet Republicans look like they may be stuck with a hard-core conservative challenger who some fear could win the primary but lose in the general election.

A White House search for a candidate to replace former state Sen. Kelli Ward in the primary appears to have hit a wall. And now conservatives want to turn Arizona into the latest example of a Trump Train outsider taking down a member of the GOP establishment.

“People are fooling themselves if they think Jeff Flake is anything but a walking dead member of the United State Senate,” said Andy Surabian, whose Great America Alliance is backing Ward.

“I don’t see how he survives a primary. I don’t see how he survives a general. The numbers just don’t add up,” added Surabian, who worked at the White House as an adviser to Steve Bannon, then the president’s top strategist.

I notice how the article is (not so) subtly trying to jinn up additional primary challengers to Flake. It’s a standard tactic to split the anti-incumbent vote so Flake can survive. Let’s not fall for it...Kelli Ward is a viable candidate for both the primary and general elections.

I agree with the previous poster; this article is designed to not only split, but SPLINTER the vote!

Two words: Kelli Ward.

“In 2016, I challenged Senator John McCain because I knew that he would be a problem for President Trump’s agenda - and he has been. It was the first time I ran for statewide office and ultimately our campaign came up short which has proven to be embarrassing for Arizona and dangerous for our country and the world. We learned many lessons in that campaign against Senator McCain and this time, we are building a campaign that will win.

I’m not interested in going to Washington, DC, to be ‘just another Senator.’ I’m going into the swamp to drain it, to shine a light on the murky darkness that is our political system. I’m going to transform a broken institution by bringing common sense and a ‘lead by example’ philosophy to the Senate. Frankly, I’m sick and tired of career politicians who lack the courage to fight and who sit on the sidelines while we run trillion dollar deficits - expanding a broken government that doesn’t work for us. On day one, I’ll relentlessly champion the best policies of my friends in the conservative, Tea Party, and liberty movements.”

She also has Laura Ingraham promoting her! Of course, I can’t VOTE for Dr. Ward, but I can throw a few bucks her way; Politics is no longer LOCAL for me!

You all KNOW McCain will not go gentle into that good night!

‘Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rage at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.’ ~ Dylan Thomas

"Yet Republicans look like they may be stuck with a hard-core conservative challenger..."

No bias in that "news" report...

Chances are very high that McCain will require a replacement soon also. So Kelli Ward is good for the one of the two seats but another solid conservative will be needed for the other.

This is their meme (probably thanks to the GOP swamp-dwellers)

“The conservative could win the primary but lose the election”

Let’s see.. what other recent presidential election did they say that about? Only to be proven laughably wrong in a landslide?

And I truly believe Trump overcame a TON of voter fraud to win- and his REAL win would probably been closer to Reagan’s near 50 state sweep.

The master of deception Kyrsten Sinema the Chameleon is running in 2018. I hope enough Arizonans can see through her deception and see her for the radical leftist she is. If Flake isn't primaried I'm worried she will weasel her way into a permanent seat in the US Senate. As wretched as Flake is I would still vote for him over that snake. Then we have to worry about the fake cowgirl Anne Kirkpatrick rerunning in 2020.
