Insightful article with quotes from multiple individuals who had dealings with him. A good chunk of his wealth appears to stem from real estate investments. It remains unclear what larger objective underpinned this massacre. Was he trying to send a message, the way McVeigh or the WTC bombers did, or was this pure catharsis - a way of expressing the turmoil or rage within, i.e. a primal scream expressed through thousands of rounds of .223 ammo?

The lack of reported motive is the dog that doesn’t bark. I suspect they know his motive but aren’t saying.

“...a former postal worker, IRS agent and government auditor, would commit mass murder. He doesn’t fit the mass shooter profile.”

He doesn’t? So what is NPR’s ‘definition’ of a mass shooter? I’ve never heard them utter the word, ‘Islamist Jihadist.’

EVER.

.
He needed no motive; he was an asset of the intelligence community, a “Useful Idiot.”

“..some kind of grievance — big or small — can be a triggering event. The grievance can spiral into planning and preparing some kind of response...”

Investigators need to go WAY BACK... for the answer to this. If he has been stockpiling weapons, etc. for decades... the then trigger is that old too

Paid informant? Laundered cash by claiming big gambling wins? Could this guy have been a spook? Why don’t we know where he went to college, for pity’s sake??!

I think it could be a hybrid attack; an anti-Trump/antifa inspired attack with help from international terrorism.

Police say he bought dozens of guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition and explosives typically used for target shooting.

I’ve never gone target shooting with explosives. What am I doing wrong?
