I presume that every member of ICAN and the Nobel Peace Prize Committee can speak fluent Chinese.
Why, in the 72 years of Nuclear Weapons, there has been no major power conflicts like there was in the prior time frame? Israel survives because of their existence, India and its neighbors of Pakistan & China have only fought border skirmishes rather than outright invasions. The Republic of China / Taiwan, and South Korea exist because of the USofA nuclear umbrella. For that matter, Scandinavia, from the Baltic nations to Norway, owe their peace and prosperity to NATO, especially in the time immediately following WW2.
PS: If ICAN thinks that their goal is even remotely possible (ref. DPRK & Iran), I have some prime Florida real estate and a bridge in New York to sell them.
The only way it will be possible to eliminate nuclear weapons is to develop a more devastating weapon. Human nature requires that the bad guys be scared of an existential threat. When they don’t have that threat handing over their head is when wars start. History shows this over and over. We are mighty lucky that the good guys got this weapon before the bad guys.
