I didn't know which side to support in this, but if the socialists are for staying then:

All hail the new state of Catalonia!

My bet is there’s going to be “hot” civil action over there before too long.

Parallel case: Calexit.

For California to exit the union, a change in the U.S. constitution is needed, right?. 2/3 of the vote in house and senate and then ratified by 2/3 of states (or something like that).

Imagine California governor organizes a referendum with question: do you want to secede from U.S.? Yes / No answer.

Then 30% of people vote (assuming no fraud, which is to assume a lot in case of Catalonia).

Then 90% say yes (hint: 90% of one answer in any vote is always a big red flag, like Venezuela)

How legally legitimate is all that???????

Could California claim independence?. Oh well boh boh the free will of the people, blah, blah, blah.

I have read in other threads on this topic people taking sides based on “who’s the left, who’s the right”. It has nothing to do with it. I could go on and on about history, culture, and the indoctrination of children for the last forty years. I was born and raised in Spain, lived in Barcelona from 18 to 28 years old.

Nigel Farage, who I enjoyed listening to, is being so opportunistic that I am disgusted. He is making this about the European Community repression, so European Community is bad, Puigdemont is good. Sorry, but EU has NOTHING to do with it, and is bad for many other reasons. This is precisely a wrong reason. Plus Catalonia LOVES the EU.

One last thing to finish my venting. The poor old lady covered in blood...she fell downstairs. The poor woman with 4 broken fingers...politician lying for her cause. The oh so many images of peaceful citizens attacked by police...archive images from previous riots or whatever. The real issue was the aggression to the police because they were not firing. OH!, that’s not on the news. Surprise.

Elected officials in Catalonia defied the court to hold the referendum, I guess they will continue defiance with a meeting to maybe declare independence.

Roy Moore was elected twice as Chief Justice in Alabama and twice defied federal court orders leading to his removal from office.

I like the notion of non-violent resistance to court orders in Catalonia cause it reminds me of Roy Moore.
