“The bullets left holes, but did not penetrate the two circular white tanks”

If this story is true, it is possible that the first concert was the preferred target.
It would be much easier to spin that a right wing nut who went ballistic.

Jet fuel is basically kerosene. A bullet hit is not going to make it explode.

Spent rounds should have a confirmed signature to one of the rifles found in that suite otherwise the claim is a distraction.

Somewhere theres an engineer to thank...
Or a Underwriters laboratory specification writer...:^)
From one tank manufacturers data sheet -
Meets the following ballistics standard: Empty tank subjected to five shots of 150-grain M-2 ball ammunition, muzzle velocity of 2700 feet per second (823 m/s), fired from a .30 caliber rifle at a distance of 100 feet (30.4m). Bullet fired perpendicular to point of impact on the tank wall determined to be most vulnerable. Shots placed independently of each other within a 3-foot by 3-foot area on the tank surface. Following projectile test, primary tank shall show no signs of leakage when subjected to the leakage test for primary tanks per UL 2085 22.2.

I was just explaining what a tracer is. I very much doubt that small arms from 1000 yards could penetrate a fuel storage tank, or vandals would have made aviation impractical.
