UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on Wednesday he hoped recent devastating hurricanes in the Caribbean and southern United States would convince climate change skeptics like U.S. President Donald Trump that global warming is a “major threat.”
Guterres, who will visit the Caribbean islands this weekend to see damage from last month’s hurricanes said the world must be more determined in pushing for ”a clean, sustainable energy future.”“I have not yet lost my hope that what is happening will be making those that are still skeptical about climate change to be more and more realizing that this, indeed, is a major threat for the international community at the present moment,” he said.
“It is rare to see so many storms of such strength so early in the season,” Guterres told reporters. “Scientific models have long predicted an increase in the number of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes. This is precisely what is happening – and even sooner than expected.”
The secretary-general said innovative financing mechanisms would be crucial in helping countries, such as those in the Caribbean, cope with such significant external shocks.

Hurricanes have been occurring for eons. How does this Dufus explain nearly 12 years of no major hurricane activity near the US recently? Man made Global Warming is a F’n HOAX.
I’m liking this storm season for one reason only; the Conservatives in TX and FL and elsewhere are showing the Socialists in PR how things get DONE!

Likewise, if there are no significant storms as was the case in the recent years, then it proves that Global Warming is a hoax and lets hope that its proponents finally believe that it is a hoax.
Well, 13 years of minimal hurricane activity didn’t convince you of my position, so why should three storms convince me of yours?
So all hurricanes and tropical storms are now caused by man-made global warming?
When did the big switch take place? What was the last storm that was caused by nature, and followed by the first storm that was caused by human activity?
Or are some storms caused by human activity, and some storms caused by nature? If so, which ones?
I think the UN should start the example and ban all travel by its members from using oil.
