Dallas Police Chief David Brown has been through hell and he's handling it like only a true leader can.
During a press conference Monday, Brown issued a challenge to Black Lives Matter protestors demanding change around policing in their communities: Join us and make a difference.
"We're hiring," Brown said. "Get off that protest line and put an application in."
"Well put you in your neighborhood, and well help you resolve some of the problems youre protesting about, he continued.
Brown grew up in the inner city and decided to become a police officer during the national crack cocaine epidemic. He saw a problem in his community and wanted to fix it. Decades later, he's in charge of one of the most successful police departments in the country.
I did a search and did not find this old article. But I think a player should put his money where his mouth (and knee) are and work to fix the problem instead of a feel good gesture.
That was a noble thing for him to suggest, that the complainers start training to become a part of the solution.
The main problem with that is some BLM members may join the force, only to infiltrate or infect the organization with bad practices and immoral procedures. The US Military already has that problem with gang members joining and later stealing government owned weapons.
They DON’T WANT a “solution”...they want to complain. “Solvers” have to be self-sufficient...whiners get freebies and sympathy.
Know your enemy.
But that would be too hard. So much easier to just hang around and shout insults.
DPD is planning on hiring felons now?
The issue is that their culture does not value the same things. They view what we call crime as an acceptable career choice. So when a young man gets shot after holding up a store, it is the cops fault. The guy was just “doing his job”.
That is the issue. That is the thing that needs to be worked out.
Police Chief David Brown is gone and Dallas now has a black female as the new chief. She was the Deputy Chief in Detroit.
He raises a GREAT point, but I am not comfortable with men that inclined to that level or hatred and violence with their kind of lack of self-control, being put in the position of LE.
IIRC, he said this last year (or the year before). Wondering why it’s news again. He does make a great point, though.
nope it not noble its the same old tired argument by a govt bureaucracy that refuses to change or reform itself
Exactly. Not too many of them would pass the interview stage, let alone the background check.
Dallas Police Chief Challenges Black Lives Matter: Join Us and Change The Things You Protest About.
Hell they certainly do not want change. It takes away their bread and butter. What would they have to whine about.
Don't have to worry, none of the NFL kneelers have the courage of their protests.
Exactamundo.
He knows his enemy. But he’s smart to turn the tables on them like this. It helps to very clearly bring into focus exactly what you said: they don’t want a solution, they want an “issue.” Good PR move.
When it comes down to actually resolving a problem, the forces that support BLM would much rather have the issue than any kind of compromise.
Their way or the highway. So far as the BLM and their supporters are concerned, ALL law enforcement should be disbanded and let “freedom” prevail.
Pretty uncertain form of “freedom”. Out of order, it becomes anarchy.
Lawlessness is not new. Nor has it ever worked without eventually spawning a REAL police state.
You really have to question whether or not street riff-raff would even be able to qualify for law enforcement. That’s all these people are and all they know IMO.
I’m sure the police chief will find out soon enough just how many rabble think his idea is a good one. I’m sure he’s not holding his breath!!
As if they could read well enough to pass the qualification exams.
david brown retired early (at age 56) and relatively quietly on oct 4, 2016, 3 months after this article.
my guess is that there is probably a story behind his retirement.

This was done years ago with some journalists who were riding hard on police - - they were given a police uniform and allowed to ride the midnight sift. After a few nights on the streets journalists changed their tune. They 'took the red pill'... (Too bad the city later decided to stop the program as they were concerned about being sued if a journalist was injured while wearing a police uniform but NOT trained as a police officer.)
Journalists learned quickly that how street thugs act toward journalists ( pity party excuses and cry poor innocent me a river crap) is totally different then how the same street thugs treat a police officer at 2 AM after robbing a liquor store.
