Trump slams Puerto Rico: ‘They want everything to be done for them’
The Hill ^ | September 30, 2017 | Brandon Carter

Posted on 09/30/2017 6:09:38 AM PDT by Pinkbell

President Trump on Saturday criticized Puerto Rico's "poor leadership" and defended his administration's response to the aftermath of Hurricane Maria's devastation on the island. Following a plea for aid by San Juan's mayor, Trump said the mayor was being "nasty."

"The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump," Trump tweeted. "Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help."

"They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort," he continued. "10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job."

San Juan mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz, who is a member of the island's Popular Democratic Party, has been critical of the federal government's response to the crisis in Puerto Rico.

Earlier Friday, she blasted acting Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke for calling the government's response to the crisis a "good news story."

"Maybe from where she's standing, it's a good news story," Cruz said. "When you're drinking from a creek, it's not a good news story. When you don't have food for a baby, it's not a good news story."

"Damnit, this is not a good news story," she continued. "This is a people-are-dying story." Cruz also held an emotional press conference Friday ripping the Trump administration's efforts to assist the island.

"I will do what I never thought I was going to do. I am begging, begging anyone who can hear us to save us from dying. If anybody out there is listening to us, we are dying, and you are killing us with the inefficiency," she said.

It didn’t help them last election. The PR vote is not lock step like the African American vote.

Trump vs. Bush reminds me of the Lincoln quote about Grant - “I can’t spare this man; he fights!”

She’ll probably wind up like Nagin has would up — in prison for corruption. She has the same nasty attitude.

So he’s slamming the comments from the Mayor of San Juan and not slamming “Puerto Rico” as the headlines (not just this publication) are claiming.

That’s not the way it is being reported, though.

Just found out from a reporter that the White House invited her multiple times to visit the FEMA center, and she would not go. Why?

Because she's the next cause-celebre for the political Left.

I've said this before on other PR threads. By the end of Monday, her t-shirt will be worn by celebrities and other left-wing activists. A hashtag will be created today. Celebrities like Rosie Perez will travel to PR to take selfies with her.

All of this is completely orchestrated. I'm just surprised that people don't see how the Left operates.

Let the media whine. Like the other legion attacks on Trump, they will backfire. Bigly.

Puerto Ricos econonmy was devastated by BILL KLINTOON repeal of Section 936.

In the 1980's and 90's the economy was booming.

KLINTOON and his fellow communists just couldn't stand the fact that corporations could set up shop there and pay low taxes.

The communists in PR and the US conspired to kick out the US Navy, which was a HUGE mistake.

PR's current economy is a DIRECT RESULT OF AMERICAN COMMUNISTS in the CPUSA and DEMOCRAT PARTY

Great post!

The people on that island are going to have to step up and help themselves. I have seen pictures od 10,000 shipping containers of supplies sitting on the docks waiting to be used.

I used to give Kartographer heck for his silly Star Trek quote, but its true. Take away creature comforts and they will turn feral.

I didn't give him any grief, though he uses it a lot.

Kart, you are right and it is being played out here.

If these people on that island don't get off their Asses and help out it's going to take ALOT longer to fix this mess!

Spoils the narrative of the Trump administration as incompetent, of course.

Puerto Rico is in deep troubles of its own making and the San Juan mayor exemplifies it. She should be organizing everyone she can to help distribute supplies. Then take some time to deliver a few herself.

Funny thing is, Bush got a black eye over Katrina. But even after that, he still kept the Presidency out of Kerry’s hands.

What happened to The Hill? It was left leaning but pretty bland down the middle with reporting you could actually read. The past year or so it’s gone totally far left with click bait over the top fake HuffPo like headlines.

Same thing happened to the Daily Mail, although it was more right leaning prior to Trump.
