Supporters of veterans hold ceremony to dedicate renamed downtown plaza (Calif)

The small plaza was festooned with miniature American flags. Mariam Kubursi, 11, delivered a stirring rendition of the National Anthem. Most of the approximately 75 people in attendance placed right hands across their hearts as American Legion members stood motionless in military salute.

It was a fitting start to the Sept. 19 dedication ceremony for the renaming of the plaza at Main and State streets in downtown Los Altos. The Los Altos City Council in July 2016 approved a request from veterans and their supporters to change the name of Community Plaza to Veterans Community Plaza.

“Today, Los Altos joins cities and towns throughout California and across the nation in having a plaza dedicated to the men and women who have served in the armed forces of the United States of America,” event master of ceremonies Jack Kelly said.

“By naming this Veterans Community Plaza, we thank those who continue their humble and distinctive service to our country,” Kelly said. “We also ensure that the memory of those veterans who have gone before us remains eternal.”

Kelly credited faculty at Foothill College – home to the Veterans Resource Center – American Legion Post 558, the Los Altos Village Association, the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce and the Los Altos Rotary and Kiwanis clubs for supporting the effort.

Former Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Pete Manoukian said “If it weren’t for law enforcement and the military, the lives we lead would be completely different. The next time you see a veteran, give them a hug and say, ‘Thanks for your service.’”

I apologize for posting this very local (but very uplifting) news, but I think it is important to show everybody that normal people with good old fashioned true American patriotism do live here in California. Contrary to popular belief, not all of CA is commie/antifa-insane -- even here in the San Francisco Bay Area we have normalcy. Unfortunately, these types of everyday celebrations get buried by all the front-page press that the communist antifa/BAMN types get all the time (including the arrest yesterday of the antifa school teacher).

I was especially struck by the fact that our local community college (13,000 day and night students!) has a Veterans Resource Center and they were instrumental in getting the plaza renamed. That is something of which we can be especially proud! Across the land, most people associate colleges with anti-Americanism; this is refreshing and good news.

Lastly, here's 11 year old Mariam Kubursi singing the National Anthem! This is a great pic of the young singer.

You just had to rain on the parade, didn’t you? You poor, jaded, cynical soul.

Of course there are still a few good patriotic people in CA. But the fact remains, they’re outnumbered about 4 to 1 by leftist screw worms who control the entire state, end to end. That wasn’t enough, so over the last 2 decades, CA oppressors imported about 8 million illegals into your laps.

What you say is true...but I do look for the silver linings in that dark cloud. Otherwise you get curmudgeonly.

"Otherwise you get curmudgeonly."

Oh, I don't know. I'm sort of happy that I've reached the age where I can wear my curmudgeon proudly ...

Unfortunately there is no silver lining for CA.

Simply too many of the wrong kinds of people were intentionally seeded into the state over a period of decades. Nothing changes that. It’s very unfortunate. And the same SOB’s that turned crown jewel of the U.S. into disgusting leftist sh**hole, have declared the entire state an official illegal alien sanctuary.

So there ya have it.
