What a cool young man and example to others. Honestly, if it were myself at that age, I would have already pissed it away on blingy stuff.

Something doesn’t add up. He was a first round draft choice which per the current CBA has a sliding pay struture for 1st round picks through the last pick in the final 7th round. If a player is not drafted they are free agents and can with any team usually for between $15k to $30k. If they make the team the league minimum is $465K.

1st rounders are guaranteed millionaires. They are entitled to several million in signing bonuses and remaining amount is structured over 4 years. In his case he signed a $13.8 million contract and got an $8.2 million signing bonus. He will receive the remaining $5.6 million over the next 4 years.

Game day checks are equal to the annual salary divided by 16 games. They only get paid if they are on tge active roster for the game. Players don’t receive pay for training camps or other team activities (OTA). His minimum game day check is at least $87,500.

What relevance does your favorite college football team have to do with the story? Does it matter where he went to school?

I should clarify that I’m not knocking the kid, but the fake news spin. ESPN is trying to make it look like this kid gave all his money away to portray NFL players as unselfish community minded people.

Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson donated his first game check to three women who work in the NRG Stadium cafeteria and who were especially affected by the flooding from Hurricane Harvey.

Very nice gesture by this young man. He's also showing some promising signs as a QB.

His minimum game day check is at least $87,500.

$27,3535 * 3 = $82,059. Maybe he donated three checks for that amount, each to one of the women? Or maybe taxes and with-holding, or maybe he kept something for himself. In any event, very classy gesture.

The just reported that he gave 3 checks, each about $9k.

Again this was a fine act, but the basis of the story being that he makes the league minimum still doesn’t add up.

A player with a little sense and compassion. Thank you, Mr. Watson.

“Does it matter where he went to school?”

Does it matter that “Villanueva, 29, is a graduate of the United States Military Academy. “?

His military background and education would explain why he correctly felt he should show respect to the flag and country.

So schools matter, case closed.

I still don’t understand why you being an Alabama fan and his team beating your team has any bearing on his action and your approval.

“I still don’t understand why you being an Alabama fan and his team beating your team has any bearing on his action and your approval.”

Because the typical lib blames someone else. They hate anyone proving them wrong or defeating them (e.g Trump over Hillary).

Watson defeated Bama, and it was Bama’s fault. Deshaun took advantage of Bama’s errors.

So I don't blame him for winning, I blame Bama for losing. Which is not the liberal way. If I was a lib I'd be blaming Watson for not supporting the cause.

I’m still laughing at the poster who asked you why does your college team matter? It’s Bama Baby!
Must be one of the Luther strange supporters who thought Bama would take a knee and elect whomever D.C. Told them too.
