When I was a child my favorite place on earth was Fontaine Ferry Park. A rather substantial amusement park for children.

Back then it was whites only, even though it was in the West End of Louisville, KY. Very clean. Dignified. Orderly. Patrons were very well behaved.

Then in 1960 the owners decided to allow blacks to attend. Almost immediately, there were assaults, robberies, muggings and crimes committed by blacks. Black on white crime was the norm. The owners tried to hire security, etc, but by then, it was too far gone.

They closed the place in 1963.
