Two possibilities here.
1. Art Rooney II doesn’t know what the word “boycott” means.
2. Art Rooney II is a liar.
Boycott is an Irish word, so #1 is nearly unthinkable.
The players stole the brand of the NFL, and used their storefront as the stage for their own selfish protests. They usurped the goodwill and brand loyalty that the NFL spent generations building, and squandered it on a meaningless protest, based on lies, by a has-been player.
However, when the team owner himself is out there kneeling, then all bets are off.

Make a public statement that each and every player( even bench warmers) will stand for the flag and anthem. Then say if they don't they are fired. There will be NO exceptions!
Then, on game day, they will all stand or else. Any and all that don't, are escorted off the field by a cop. Then stop all payments. I'm sure they all have some sort of moral clause in their contracts. Follow through with what you said you would do.
That's the way I had to teach my child when she got to be a teenager. Don't make threats if you won't follow through.
Anything short of something this black and white will not be good enough to make this go away. As for me, this can't be healed. I'm done forever because I feel like anything would be a publicity stunt just to get people to watch again. But I do feel for many that eat, sleep, and dream, about football during the year. Knowing how they feel about the flag and country now, won't change in my eyes forever. I believe in repentance, but I have no way of knowing who truly repents. Maybe a stint in the Marines might go a long way.
If you don’t want controversy tell your players to stand reverently with your hand over your heart for three minutes during the national anthem!!!!
