Give me a break. If anything, people today are more in the “know” than 200 years ago, so yes I think that is relevant. One of the reasons we have so many adult kids is because of you do-gooders never let kids grow up anymore. One of the best things my parents ever did for me was cut me off at 19 to force me to fend for myself. I went from no job, to min wage to making top 2% income in 12 years.

To suggest that "consent" is conferred by merely the ages involved in an otherwise forbidden relationship is a sign of our moral decay.

Women were also correctly recognized as the “weaker” sex, vulnerable in society. Allowing an older man take over the role of “cover” for the young woman was a gesture of care, not of sexual advantage.

Now this. A couple friends I new had their marriage break down. Part of the issue is the wife rarely would concede to have sex. Why? She was sexually abused as a child.
My grandfather abused all his female children, and then turned his sights on my cousins. When he got caught the shame caused him to shoot himself in the head. Why would he do that if there is no harm done?

Funny thing. My sister is a card carrying liberal, but there isn't a single week she doesn't remind my mother how terrible a person she is for abandoning us as children.
For pedophilia it has to be projection. So called experts and policy experts wanting to diddle their own target. The socialist party in Canada, the NDP has tried and tried to reduce the age of consent from 16 to 12. I believe they succeeded at age 14, but that was later reversed in BC.
