Myth: John Kerry was a “hero”
Why am I not surprised?
Is there a link to this News/Activism Story?
I am on episode 9 I think they did a good job with casualties during Tet. The offensive when `120,000 NK came down the trail in russian tanks after U*S ready to pull out. The portray Yet as a big loss for NV. They do the same with Hue and a few other battles. i disagree your portrayal; of the presentation on casualties.
Knew ahead of time it would be a waste of time to watch. Too much revisionism of history.
What myth did they tell abut blacks?
Here’s a new story about the PBS series I reference:
Please consider that the thread topic - from a RECENT NEWS STORY.

This is a Jane Fonda version of history in that it glorifies Ho Chi Minh. At times it has to quickly gloss over the fact that kindly Uncle Ho had to liquidate a bunch of bourgeoisie but as the saying goes you have to break a few eggs ....
Do you dispute the faking of some numbers. i remember specifically the initiative to clear the Cong out of the area south of Saigon. Looks like they phoned up and didn’t care. The information didn’t come from the producer, it came from people who were there.
“Blacks suffered deaths disproportionately. This myth persists in school history books and was repeated in the PBS documentary.”
In your list you say that 10.6 percent of people that served were black, while 12.5% that died were black. I wouldn’t say that those percentages are “disproportionate” - but that may be the statistic they are making their claim on. (”Lies, damned lies, and statistics”).
..... Well ..... They are NOT Myths ...... They are talking points being presented as FACTS. And from thus shall the minds of many be molded. Not upon fact ..... but upon a carefully chosen narrative to help re-wright history for all that follow to learn. And upon this shall the future world learn.
Episode 9 on Baez Dillinger Sontag and Hayden and of course Fonda. Delineation of her crimes. The vet is in love with her, but he uses the word betray.
You must be watching a different documentary than I am. I’m watching the Ken Burns Vietnam War documentary on PBS. They have been very clear than the NVA and VC lost a much higher number of fighters. The Ken Burns documentary surprisingly made the point that the Tet Offense was devastating to the VC (and to a lesser extent, the NVA). Burns argues that the press was able to point out statements made by military leaders that were incongruent with the VC’s ability to pull of the Tet Offensive in the first place, and that the press was thus able to chip away at support for the War.
I am a Vietnam combat wounded veteran. I was in country for 12 months, 6 of those months in the “Field” - I believe that is now termed “outside the wire”. I was also in the Dec 31, ‘68 TET Offensive as an Armored Cavalry Platoon Leader where I got some bumps, cuts and bruises and was later assigned to Transportation Unit out of Long Binh. I am tired of the perpetuation of myths, revisionist history, we did everything wrong and the enemy did everything right lies, etc. I refuse to watch any more CRAP from Hollywood or wherever. I guess we will NEVER be told the REAL story, the events experienced by those who were there who have NO political agenda. DON’T WATCH THAT CRAP if you want to know the truth.

Is this another Ken Burns fauxcumentary? The guy who made 5 attempted murderers millionaires?

B.G. Burkett wrote a book twenty years ago called Stolen Valor. The myth that a disproportionate number of Black American Soldiers died when compared to the general population was discussed in some detail. It bothers me that this myth is perpetuated in this So Called Documentary. What bothers me more is that our kids are being taught this and other lies about the Vietnam War.
