Called them this morning...threatened to cancel if they dont. You have to work your way through the prompts a bit.
USAA is on the wrong side of this issue.
The directors and management of USAA need to remember that the organization is a member-owned cooperative.
This is not management’s private piggy bank.
Working through a claim with them right now. I will mention to the adjuster that I am looking for an insurance company/bank not associated with the NFL. Sadly, I work for another sponsoring company, and cannot afford to leave.
Looks like USAA hates what their members fought for.
I don’t see this taking down the NFL. I view it as an almost “it’ll hang around until something else pre-occupies the media” sort of thing.
I also wonder about people (not you) being genuine about their “boycotts”. It would be interesting to see if it were somehow verifiable.
Call me a cynic. But I bet plenty of people will be watching. I’ll be one of them tonight when my Cowboys take the field. I love football in all forms and I love watching it.
I do see it taking down the NFL.
Of course the hate America crowd may still watch but there is no fence to sit on. At this point you have to advocate that anyone who wants to go ahead and spit on the people who have fought and died for this nation to continue watching.
The players and owners have taken away all other choices.
No middle ground exists and sticking with football puts you in the Antics / BLM camp.
Cloward Pliven polarization.
Lets just hope these people are serious, and follow through.
Thats about right. This will all blow over in a month and not to many will think about it.
I dont watch much football anymore because of the thing has become a ME sport for the spoiled little children who are playing it.
USAA is stuck.
They needed to remain as a small insurance company.
They became scared by the military drawdown and were afraid they might have to lay off some of their employees. So, they are advertising to try and look like they are doing OK.
USAA is not dedicated to their customers anymore.
They are dedicated to their employees and to San Antonio.
For crying out loud. They built a theme park in San Antonio. They built a retirement complex in San Antonio.
Just watch and see what your Subscribers Savings Account dividend is this year.
You just confirmed the drastic damage to the NFL. You claimed you would be watching YOUR Cowboys tonight. Millions will continue to watch THEIR personal team, but will with deliberate intent watch NOTHING else of a week’s football.
The vsst majority of NFL coverage has nothing to do with one’s personal team, thus we can avoid 90% of air time.
The NFL is dying a slow death for other reasons -- mainly demographics and an increasing variety of entertainment options these days.
When you read stories about NFL ratings declining year-over-year, keep in mind that the figures they post are usually given in actual viewers, not as a share of TV viewers. This means that even if the NFL ratings are flat instead of declining, it reflects a decline in in the NFL's popularity compared to the population as a whole.
I've also suggested that very few people are boycotting the NFL at all. If they're "boycotting," that means they'll come back again if/when the NFL changes something about the way it's conducting itself. I'll bet nearly everyone who claims to be boycotting the NFL is never coming back under any circumstances -- not out of anger, but because getting away from the NFL for a weekend or two makes them realize how much of a waste of time the NFL is.
I have been a member of USAA for over 46 years
Take a look at the Board of Directors, I remember when it was comprised of former military officers; that is certainly not the case now. It has morphed into a “civilian” insurance company that likes to tout its military related heritage. I also called USAA this morning, and was told that I had to complete a member feedback that would be processed “upline” (in other words,... file 13).
USAA is lacking the intestinal fortitude to stand up and be counted and is looking only to keep the coffers flowing to support their salaries.
I love football as well. But I love my country more.
Now that the NFL is using its position to make a mockery of those who fought and died for this country, I will no longer be giving them any of my time and attention.
It sucks. I love watching football on a Sunday. But I can’t do it anymore without feeling like a hypocrite.
I AM a Cowboy fan but not planning to watch tonight.
I usually also watch the FOX Sports Sunday sic? with Terry, Jimmy, Michael etc. Even record it. But didn’t even do that yesterday. Glad to see that avoiding the rest of NFL coverage will help.
Agreed there. If the Cowboys were not on TV, I’d not really be watching. I watch Navy and Dallas. That’s pretty much it.
I did the same thing with TD Ameritrade yesterday.
Told them I had 5 accounts (which I do), gave them the account numbers so that they could verify that I wasn’t fooling around with the amount of money I was threatening to move over to Etrade.
I get a phone call today assuring me that they are NO LONGER a sponsor of the NFL as of the end of the 16/17 season, nor do the have any immediate plans to re-sponsor them any time soon.
Sorry, I disagree. Too much has become “my way or the highway”. There are grays. Not everything is black or white. Right or wrong. It’s part of the problem in this country on the whole. Regardless of the issue being discussed. Too many are too busy being polemic.
Does that mean you’re considering cancelling?
I called USAA today as well. I have several insurance accounts with them.
They said they are not changing.
I am looking to switch my properties away from there.
I guess I don’t feel like a hypocrite. I know lots of Veterans. Current, former and deceased. I have listened to their various takes on the issue and many - more than 50% - don’t agree with what the players are doing, but understand it and don’t begrudge them doing it. They repeatedly state that preserving these players right to do it “one of the rights we fought for”. They don’t have to agree. But they can respect and understand it.
If it’s ok with them, it’s ok with me.
