Here’s a theory:

NFL C-level guys see the concussion and injury stuff coming at them like a runaway freight train. They’re thinking about the silicone breast implant lawsuit that almost wiped out Dow Corning, they’re thinking about the tobacco lawsuit, and they’re thinking “it’s only a matter of time.”

So what they do is try to go the SJW route, try to forestall the inevitable by going wall-to-wall virtue signaling.

I don’t know, but I can see it happening.

"So what they do is try to go the SJW route, try to forestall the inevitable by going wall-to-wall virtue signaling."

Not just the NFL, but corporate virtue-signaling has gone off the charts in the last couple of years. We hear everything from "football is family" to "love is what makes a Subaru," and many corporations - including the NFL - make a big show of how they are "giving back to the community." (Having grown up with the Biblical story of the "widow's mite," I am not particularly impressed when multi-millionaire football players set up some sort of "foundation" with a portion of their millions.)

Corporations - perhaps living in fear of left-wing shakedowns, or perhaps out of conviction - are increasingly adopting left-wing political messages, including open support for gay marriage. The Seattle WNBA team is even "partnering" with Planned Parenthood!

Listen to the voices in TV ads: more and more, they are "nice," slightly effeminate, non-threatening young men, talking in a voice that no real man ever uses. It is weird.

The NFL has already paid $720 million as a way to “accept responsibility”. Considering their profit margin, paying that amount (essentially 5% of their net income over 5 years) and agreeing to implement any safety measures that the medical profession suggests was smart business and their lawyers can now say, “We already paid up and we’re doing what the medical profession wants, so you got nothing on us.”

Yes. This is the prologue towards a "World Football League" or whatever.

I've bloviated about it on other threads. I personally don't think it will work, but that's the long game TPTB/NFL are trying, for the reasons you point out: Class action lawsuits, which actually I haven't taken into account so much as my personal belief that most American families aren't going to continue letting their sons play football.

The NFL is screwed, and I don't care. Let them go get real jobs.

By extension, the game of football is in jeopardy too at all levels... I see it being relegated to about the same level of interest as MMA, etc.

1. Tge “NFL” didn’t start the protests. A loser player did.

So I don’t know if the NFL is that clever.

2.Even if, you and I know -—the SJWs will never stop. You can’t buy them off

I am waiting for a study using anonymous brains from similar age and and active lifestyles. I distrust the study citing 111 out of 112 ex football players having concussion syndrome..or whatever they ware calling it now. This has always had a political ring to my ears. The goal has always been to destroy America. They want to take away ALL things that make us great and unique. Was it not Winston Churchill who said “the Second World War was won on the playgrounds of America”.
