I agree as hard as that is for me. I don't see any way we get through these times without bloodshed. The question is how much? Imagine what it will take to change the thinking of either side and that is a thought too scary to contemplate.
I disagree that he "stole" ideas. In many cases he bought them, but I don't believe he ever "stole" items. A major contemporary to Gate's DOS (disc operating system was IBM's JCL (job control language). JCL was a nightmare. It was case sensitive, where a command like "Copy" was not recognized the same as "copy". In addition, JCL contained numerous, long, case sensitive acronyms. Learning them took months of painful memorization. Numerous capital letters could appear anywhere in the string, making typing arduous. Only a few, usually weird, gurus could become accomplished at this.
Gate's DOS simplified this. DOS used simple English words, insensitivity to case, and short instructions. An ordinary mortal could use DOS after a few minutes of coaching.
In addition, numerous low cost improvements appeared on the market shortly after each new DOS release was announced. Gates would immediately buy them, and incorporate them in the next version, WITHOUT A PRICE INCREASE. This made each new offering of DOS something users eagerly paid for. The guy was a brilliant marketer, not a thief.
His brilliance dimmed considerably with the introduction of Windows, however.
Just out of curiosity, what do you do with all that debris when living on a postage stamp sized island, a hundred miles, or so, from the mainland?
Actually, we have huge trucks coming and going all day long getting rid of debris in a seemingly endless manner. Scott and Trump have done a marvelous mgmt. job of putting the right people, men and machines in the right place at the right time.It may take a while to get rid of it all but it will happen. My guess by Thanksgigivng it will look far better than it does.
