Initially reported as 3.4.
USGS now calls it 3.5
Big difference between nuclear test explosions and this: quake at 5.0 kilometers and considered a natural quake.
Possible MOUNTAIN collapse with radio-active fallout to follow from the six nuclear tests...

The latest quake was recorded at a depth of 0km in North Hamgyong province, home to the Punggye-ri nuclear site My guess would be either an "unscheduled detonation" or a demonstration of a small hydrogen bomb above ground.
Emphasis on GUESS.

Another guess: attempted fusion bomb test that failed to fully detonate.

“...or a demonstration of a small hydrogen bomb above ground.”
That is a poor guess.

It wouldn’t create a 3.5 seismic quake, and satellites would see it.

These repeated underground nuclear tests, while limiting a considerable amount of above-ground radioactive aerosols, also open fissures beneath the earth’s crust. It would be some kind of cold and implacable cosmic justice, if these fissures should open up a large caldera of molten lava that would burst forth, with the power of Krakatoa (the Korean Peninsula is relatively close to the Pacific Ring of Fire, you know), and make all this talk of global warming, imminent war with Kim Jong Un, and the economics of widespread migration entirely moot.
Kim Jong Un plays with these nuclear devices as if they were ladyfinger firecrackers.
And these devices are anything but.

Not that deep.
This is a magma chamber collapsing.

That’s what I’m hoping. He will destabilize the bedrock so profoundly that the Earth itself will rebel.

So, natural or an explosion? USGS lists M3.5 and says "This event occurred in the area of the previous North Korean Nuclear tests. We cannot conclusively confirm at this time the nature (natural or human-made) of the event. The depth is poorly constrained and has been held to 5 km by the seismologist." Pretty much the same text shared with earlier tests.

How can an earthquake happen at 0 km ?
Collapse or detonation my guess.
