As soon as I saw the headline, I though Manchin. Manchin is up for reelection in a red state, and he’s too moderate to fit in with the leftwing of the party.

It's an "improvement" that threatens to end the possibility of a real improvement. Manchin is up for re-election next year. West Virginia voted for Trump by the second widest margin of all the States. (Wyoming beat us by a fraction of a percent.) If Manchin is actually planning to switch parties, it's because he's afraid the Republican candidate will beat him next year. Manchin IS the swamp.

One has to admire the switch solely due to strategery. He went from beatable to almost unbeatable with a fairly obvious choice.
