Harold Camping of Family Radio predicted the end of the world several times. “There will be rolling earthquakes in each time zone.” Eventually (after his death) his Family Radio station in Philly was sold to another company, which made it (briefly) conservative talk.
As a stunt, they kept playing REM’s “It’s the End of the World As We Know It”. First line: “That’s great it starts with an earthquake...”
Years ago a book called the People’s Almanac (or was it Book of Lists?) had a list of failed end of the world predictions. Title of that article: Armageddon Outta Here
Those came out while I was in high school. I was addicted to those books!
