‘Undocumented and unafraid’: Wichita students rally for DACA

About 100 young people gathered on the lawn of East High School in Wichita on Friday for a student-led rally in support of a program that protects children who were brought to the United States illegally from being deported.

Carrying signs and shouting “Build more bridges, not more walls,” the high-schoolers said they wanted to show support for the legal shield known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration announced it would end the program, leaving Congress a six-month window of time to try to save it.

“We are here because we have feelings. We are not just pawns in a political game,” said Marieli Duarte, an East High senior and DACA recipient.

“I am undocumented and unafraid because I know we stand together.”

The lunchtime rally was organized by East High’s Students Against Prejudice club.

DACA does not allow for deportation as far as I understand it.

All President Trump did was flip the "deferred" switch (which was MEANT to be flipped by SOMEONE eventually) and stopped the program and sent the damned thing over to Congress for THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY TO BE PERFORMED, ... MAKE LAW.

No one's even talking about deportation (except more than a few here in FR and other Conservative sites)

Just more silly nonsense for the post Viet Nam protesters to try to re-live a legitimate beef against the US Government.

Clinton tried to do it ... odumbo tried to do it ... and they both failed.

Viet Nam is over, we're either dead or over it.

DACA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE TERMINATED.

Whether or not if I support these “dreamers”, I resent their demanding attitude.

Well, I've said that there are three phases to draining the bureaucrats in the swamp. They apply here too.

1. "He can't DO this to US!! WE'LL show HIM who's the BOSS!!"

2. "oh, well, maybe he CAN do this to us."

3. "Ya know, other options are looking good. Maybe its time to be leaving....."

These protesters are somewhere between 1 and 2. Other parts of the swamp, like the EPA and State Department, are somewhere between 2 and 3.

It's a gradual process. I don't need to eat the entire pie all at once to be happy. I can be just as happy eating a slice at a time. So long as the swamp gets drained, I can be patient.
