As more and more of these stories come out about the surveillance of various people associated with the Trump campaign, there's one important point here that hasn't got a lot of attention:

This whole mess effectively makes it impossible for the U.S. Justice Department to prosecute any of the people targeted by the surveillance. I wouldn't want to be Paul Manafort right now with all the legal troubles he may be facing, but I'm sure he can rest a little easier when he knows he can drag half of Washington D.C. into a courtroom as defense witnesses if he ever faces prosecution for even so much as unpaid parking tickets.

There may not be a single scrap of evidence collected against Manafort that may ever stand up in a court of law.

Maybe, maybe not. But his legal bills will be in the millions and his reputation will be dirt for the rest of his life. Good thing obama wasn't in office long enough top get a gulag system up and running...
