I read similar numbers in the ‘80s, both for here and especially Israel. It never seems to pan out that way. I don’t know if some who were raised Orthodox abandon it in adulthood.
Also, many of those Orthiodox will vote lefty with the right issue. A whole community of Orthodox in NY supported Mrs. Clinton over Lazio for Senate because of a local issue that Mrs. Clinton backed them on.
The definition of Orthodox also varies. They are not all Yehuda Levin, some of them are Joe Lieberman.
Yeah, the CNN “plantation,” the New York Times “plantation, the Disney plantation, the Wall St. plantation, the Bloomberg "plantation," etc. I'm not going to hold my breath that Orthodox Jews take over any time soon. It would be nice to have the “real Jews” retake their religion, but I doubt that "the monied folks" are going to relinquish their hold on Judaism.
40% of Orthodox Jews in NY State voted for Hillary for Senate in 2000.
Reason given to me by a savvy, political Orthodox lady: “They know what side their bread is buttered on.”
Translation: They have large families and need the government benefits.
It wasn’t just that one community that had a favor done for them.
