Zinke Signs Secretarial Order to Expand Land Access and Enhance Conservation

On Fri., Sept. 15, Secretary of the Interior (SOI) Ryan Zinke signed Secretarial Order 3356, continuing the Department of Interior’s (DOI) efforts to support sportsmen and women and enhance conservation stewardship. The order seeks to improve wildlife management and conservation, increase access to public lands for hunting, shooting and fishing and puts a greater emphasis on the promoting outdoor activities among youth, veterans and minority communities.

-----SNIP-----

As noted in the DOI press release, SO 3356 directs bureaus within the department to:

1. Within 120 days produce a plan to expand access for hunting and fishing on BLM, USFWS and NPS land.

2. Amend national monument management plans to ensure the public's right to hunt, fish and target shoot.

3. Expand educational outreach programs for underrepresented communities such as veterans, minorities and youth.

4. In a manner that respects the rights and privacy of the owners of non-public lands, identify lands within their purview where access to Department lands, particularly access for hunting, fishing, recreational shooting and other forms of outdoor recreation, is currently limited (including areas of Department land that may be impractical or effectively impossible to access via public roads or trails under current conditions, but where there may be an opportunity to gain access through an easement, right-of-way or acquisition) and provide a report detailing such lands to the Deputy Secretary.

5. Within 365 days, cooperate, coordinate, create, make available and continuously update online a single “one stop” Department site database of available opportunities for hunting, fishing and recreational shooting on Department lands. Improve wildlife management through collaboration with state, Tribal, territorial and conservation partners.

This is from a Republican Party aligned publication of the National Rifle Association, front group for RINO business as usual Republicans.

Zinke isn’t helping the Bundy’s or their supporters who came out to really exercise their Second Amendment rights in April 2014.

Drop the complaint that led to criminal charges against the Bundy’s because you department filed them to begin with.

Where are all those con-servatives who attempted to convince all Trump was a liberal leftist, just like Obama?

So the Secretary of the Interior expanding land access is a bad thing?

Its a diversion from what he has done wrong during his tenure like keeping Obama’s “national monuments” mostly intact, shunning the Bundy’s and refusing to drop the complaint against them with the Justice Department over Bunkerville in 2014.

Here's a REAL plan: Surrender control of ALL national land holdings, (BLM, etc.) except DC and national parks, to the states, where it belongs.

Lay off all (now) unnecessary govt. employees and sell/demolish their buildings.

That's a plan I could support.

Bull s**t. Don’t expect miracles in his first 9 months. Not going to happen. Get real.

I’ve heard excuses from the GOP Establishment before.

Nothing new here.

Donald J. Trump was elected so that dramatic changes and action would take place like FDR did to advance his agenda for example.

No excuses.

Martin Luther King held JFK’s feet to the fire on race issues and We The People expect the GOP to deliver change Trump’s way instead of their way which really is “no way” to real and meaningful change.

Roads need to be reopened that Babbitt & Clinton shut down & gated. The access to these lands must be available for the sportsmen & the fire fighting crews.

I know they shut down these roads because I knew a welder who made many gates for the FS in the Tahoe National Forest in N Calif & Nevada.

After decades of total corruption ya want 100% in 8 months? Really?

Think you're going to get sea-change in 8 months knowing Trump is surrounded by collusive insiders who's had a death grip on this country for decades?

I find your comments very suspect. Ya should have voted for this guy.

Not sure where the Constitution delegates these powers to the feds.

Environmental issues are states’ issues through the people by their state representatives, and not the constitutional business of the feds.

I don't see anything about the Bundy's (and other family ranchers) ancestral rights for their cattle to graze on that land.

Nor will you. It is all about Agenda 21. Move the people to the cities and then give them a small piece to play on.

The part about obtaining right of way access bothers me. If a piece of BLM is not connected to the outside world this order gives them the authority to connect it by ED basically. IT says, connect it so the people have a play ground to hell with the land owner of record.

My words but I read what the government refuses to print.

Thank you, we need more backcountry to hunt, or at least I do.

You do huh? I hunt 200 acres and it keeps me busy year round.

So I guess you are one of those deep wood guys that will walk past a freezer full of game to scare off the last rabbit in the forest.

That’s not the title even though you might want to make it so. You’re entitled to facts, just not your own facts.

What the hell are you talking about? This isn’t about hunting our Missouri farm, it’s about Obama attempting to close millions of acres in the west to hunting! Your neighbor’s brushy ditch doesn’t qualify as backcountry.

No one has any “ancestral right” to any public land. That land and all use thereof belong to the American people exclusively.

This action makes the use of this land by that People much easier and/are possible.

There is hunting and there is BIG feral government taking more land from the States and the People.

Every land grab it makes is unconstitutional but when it comes to hunting YOU do not care about the Constitution.

You will trade the chance to get away from your day to day grind then support what the founders did not write into the Constitution to fit YOUR NEEDS.

You are a hypocrite like Hillary, Obama and others. Go put some ice on it because it sucks to be you.

The millions of land in the West should belong to the STATES and its PEOPLE not the Feral Government. End of story
