Another interesting thing is that nothing (in a legal sense) has happened , either. Everything we've seen about Manafort boils down to a raid on his house and a CNN report claiming that someone in the prosecutor's office told Manafort that he is going to be indicted.

Well -- OK. Wake me up when that indictment comes.

I think Andrew McCarthy is reading too much into this raid. As I've speculated elsewhere, I suspect they raided his house in a desperate move because they can't use any of the evidence gathered through the FISA surveillance process.

I don’t know enough about Manafort to know if he has ever done anything wrong in his life. If they can go back to 2006, then the normal statute of limitations doesn’t apply. Mueller hopes to find something and threaten Manafort with spending the rest of his life behind bars unless he cooperates with bringing down Trump. Of course Trump still has the power of pardoning...but if he pardons Manafort after some bogus Scooter Libby-type conviction, then Paul Ryan will use that as an article of impeachment (”obstruction of justice”).

There’s a lot more on Manafort out there it’s just that none of it makes it into FR’s echo chamber. Few here do oppo research any more to see what their opponents are up to.

At least Manafort can afford to lawyer up. Lots of people are getting dragged into this witch hunt who need counsel but can’t afford it - they face financial ruin if they don’t cooperate - the truth be damned.

Politically motivated witch hunts like this which seek to criminalize politics are the modus operanda of a police state, not a constitutional Republic.

In a Republic, politicians should be held accountable by the voters, at the voting booth.

McCarthy makes a big deal about the time of day the raid took place. I think he is viewing things thru the lens of a normal prosecutor. I think Mueller is an out-of-control prosecutor trying to find ANYTHING he can use to DISCREDIT Trump.

By now, he almost certainly has strong reason to believe Trump did nothing personally wrong. And it is obvious LOTS of governments try to sway elections - like Obama tried to sway Israel’s elections, etc. Happens all the time.

An honest man would disband the special prosecutor and turn over anything involving low-level illegality to normal prosecutors. But then, that would mean Mueller wasn’t “special”.
