A suspect was arrested and charged Tuesday in the Sunday attack at a Shawnee Wal-Mart in which two Good Samaritans intervened. Shawnee police said 27-year-old Arthur Fred Wyatt III of Overland Park was charged in Johnson County District Court with attempted first-degree murder, attempted aggravated kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery. A 39-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman who had been shopping at the Wal-Mart at Shawnee Mission Parkway and Maurer Road was attacked in the parking lot about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Two men approached her while she was putting her child in a safety seat, police said. She was struck in the head. A Good Samaritan tried to intervene, and one of the attackers shot him. A second Good Samaritan then shot one of the attackers, killing him. The other attacker escaped on foot. A man who fit that persons description was detained but later released. Wyatt was arrested Tuesday. Shawnee police spokesman Maj. Dan Tennis said he could not discuss details of the arrest because the case was now in the hands of the district attorney. The Good Samaritan who was shot, a 33-year-old Kansas City man, remained in serious condition in a hospital Tuesday morning. The woman who was attacked was released from a hospital on Monday. The attacker who was killed was identified Monday as 28-year-old John W. Simmons III of Kansas City. Two Good Samaritans came to the aid of a woman who was being attacked in a Shawnee Wal-Mart parking lot on Sunday afternoon. Police describe what took place during the attempted robbery that ended with one attacker dead and the woman and one Good Samaritan in the hospital. The second Good Samaritan, a 36-year-old De Soto man, was interviewed by police and released.

I'll admit it. I was surprised by the name.
his picture and discussion of priors
his mom at a vigil says she knows he was “high” at the time
If said dead person had a “pure heart” he would not have attacked a woman in the parking lot. Pure hearts do not pull that sort of nonsense.
This happened a year ago, in 2016.

Rats! I wish people wouldn’t post old stories or give a heads up that they are old stories. I sent this to my son and he will give me grief for sending old stuff. I know, maybe I should check the date first, right?
The correct date for this is September 13, 2016.
Why are you posting year old stories? Just curious.
The accomplice, Wyatt, plead guilty to attempted murder and other charges last month. Sentencing in November.
You may regain your original premise, yet...
Well, yes, the pictures match my preconceptions, but the fact that there were enough daddies involved to get to a III, and the names themselves, are the surprise.
AT the time this attack took place, there was a 'rash' of drive bys...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSmp3fD9Dak this is an attack in broad daylight on a busy street. Dashcam video.
Worth thinking about now because it is likely coming to your town - sooner rather than later....
Ah, good point.

The famous aspiring rapper????
My bet is those are AKAs! Any takers?
I would have done the same with my daughter if she hadn’t graduated from college last May. I would have sent on old article about events in the wrong state. She went to school in Shawnee, OK. I didn’t notice this was KS until I read the comments.
We like paragraphs, please.
