The idea that climate scientists are in it for the cash has deep ideological roots

... Suggesting that climate scientists are pushing a line about global warming because their salaries depend on it is a popular talking point that deniers love to throw around.

But why do so many “sceptics”, particularly those who form part of the organised machinery of climate science denial, feel comfortable in accusing climate scientists of only being in it for the money?

Duke University history professor Nancy MacLean suggests some answers in her new book Democracy in Chains: the Deep History of the Radical Right’s Stealth Plan for America.

The book documents how wealthy conservatives, in particular petrochemical billionaire Charles Koch, teamed up with neoliberal academics with the objective, MacLean says, of undermining the functions of government in the United States.

MacLean’s central character is the late James McGill Buchanan, a political theorist and economist who won a Nobel award in 1986 for his development of “public choice theory”.

Buchanan and Koch developed and propagated their ideas through a private organisation called the Mont Pelerin Society (MPS) – an influential group known as the “neoliberal thought collective” that was established in 1947 by famed free market economist Friedrich Hayek. Buchanan was a former president and joined in 1957. Koch, who has poured millions into groups attacking mainstream climate science, joined MPS in 1970.

It would be hopelessly naive to argue that money never motivates people to do certain things.

But to suggest global warming exists only because climate scientists need the money, you need to ignore melting ice sheets, rising sea levels, increasing extreme weather events, strings of record hot years, retreating glaciers, acidifying oceans, warming sea temperatures and bleaching corals. Or claim there is a conspiracy to manufacture these impacts in exchange for a wage.

If somebody gives you $500,000 to research global warming you had better By God find them some global warming. Otherwise they’ll never give you another $500,000 as long as you live.

Goebbels Warming

CO2 is a vital part of life on earth, without it, life would be impossible.
It is NOT a dangerous pollutant.

If everyone who believes it is a dangerous pollutant stopped exhaling it we could solve this problem overnight.

When employment contracts are based on perpetuating the myth, along with grants and larger staffs, its clearly a self-serving agenda.

Then there is the punishment and firing of those who don’t play along.

I worked in aerospace and had these discussions with senior business development staff, asking why we’re so set on competing for satellite contracts intended to further an effort none of us believed had technical merit.

The answer was, “Because the gov’t wants the sensors built and deployed and that’s what we’re in business to do.”
“What they do with the data is a different story.”

To cling to AGW is to ignore the BAD predictions of the last two IPCC report predictions.

I remember back in the 1970’s when Global Cooling was the big threat. The only difference between the Coolists and the Warmists is that the Warmists figured out a way to become millionaires or even billionaires. When there is huge amounts of money to be made, just look at Al Gore, you can bet that there is a big stake in keeping the alarmism going.

Kind of a false flag. It exists because there is stupid free money to spend on it.

Maxims for living:

You can fool people, but you can’t fool money.

Money is like water, it follows the path of least resistance.

Don’t listen to what people say, watch what they do.

And always find out where they get their money

Because it's true.

We breathe in oxygen and breathe out CO2. Plants, in turn, breathe in CO2 and breathe out oxygen. Convenient, isn’t it?

So we’re polluting the atmosphere with every breath we take, right?

Two points:

1. There is no "organized machinery of climate science denial". If there is and I missed it just get me a link and I will check it out.

2. Ignoring that, the asnwer is that anyone with half a brain, make that a quarter of a brain, can spot Junk Science when it is of this magnitude. Real scientists don't fudge their measured data. They don't make corrections to make it look colder in the old days than it really was and warmer now than it realy is.

I could go on ...

Actually, it wasn’t the report that was so bad — it was the executive summary, which essentially contradicted the report.
