Cuba mystery grows: New details on what befell US diplomats

WASHINGTON (AP) — The blaring, grinding noise jolted the American diplomat from his bed in a Havana hotel. He moved just a few feet, and there was silence. He climbed back into bed. Inexplicably, the agonizing sound hit him again. It was as if he'd walked through some invisible wall cutting straight through his room.

...On Tuesday, the State Department disclosed that doctors had confirmed another two cases, bringing the total American victims to 21. Some have mild traumatic brain injury, known as a concussion, and others permanent hearing loss.

Even the potential motive is unclear. Investigators are at a loss to explain why Canadians were harmed, too, including some who reported nosebleeds. Fewer than 10 Canadian diplomatic households in Cuba were affected, a Canadian official said. Unlike the U.S., Canada has maintained warm ties to Cuba for decades.

Sound and health experts are equally baffled. Targeted, localized beams of sound are possible, but the laws of acoustics suggest...

Obama’s “grand” gesture to Castro and Cuba went on the block as soon as Obama and entourage were back in the USA...Obama was ridiculed by Raul Castro. Communism ain’t bean-bag.

From the brief description, I suspect powerful subsonic transducers clamped onto water pipes or structural members and perhaps tens of kilowatts of acoustic energy pumped in. You would feel it, but not hear it, and it would have distinct nodes and antinodes depending on how it was ‘tuned’.

They attacked our people with malicious intent. It should be treated as such. Hailey should have made a retaliatory statement by now, investigation, and if it is proven, etc.

ok, sounds good as anything. What about hypersonic? (scroll to the bottom of the article to get to the summary of brain effects)

Didn’t know Antifa was in Cuba. Or perhaps Cuba trains Antifa?

Obviously these are purposeful acts of war. Permanent hearing loss is inexcusable. The United States ought to bring these “diplomats” home! What is taking so long?

I predict, not one single solitary thing will be done about it. I wish I could be more positive, but I can't.

Dept of State is runnng these folks or are they spies? The question answers itself. Still, this story does not make sense. The US has the technology to analyze this attack on our personnel. So obviously it is known what is causing it. Therefore, what information is missing from what we are being told? If Trump is aware of it as well as Tillerson, would they both passively leave employees at risk of permanent brain damage or hearing loss? Trump the businessman wouldn’t.

Ouch! My question stands: why is America allowing its employees to stay in Cuba when they are under physical attack?

And we still have government people down there? And Cuba is still allowed to trade with the outside world?

There is a rumor that in a certain SD post in S. America the Chinese has a laser beam running through the Information Processing Facility... that we had to walk through it and work in it and keep our mouths shut.

State Department personnel for specialists and officers is officially capped at 15,000d, however the Department officially recognized under Obama that they were paying nearly 18,000. Maybe that can give some insight into those non-declared inplants from certain other agencies expanding the ranks under the guise of increased demands for Specialists in IRM, DS, etc.

He moved just a few feet, and there was silence.

Strange. That is generally not how sound propagation works.

perhaps tens of kilowatts of acoustic energy pumped in.

10s of kW sounds unlikely. Here are some examples of sound power:

Really, that’s your problem?

A good latin thump-mobile stereo from the hood can put out a few kilowatts of acoustic energy. I hear them blocks away.

Earthquakes put out acoustic energy on the order of hydrogen bombs.

You got a better theory?
