I must be slow here. I thought a CR was just signed that kept the government open through December.

McCain intends to die on the floor of the Senate with his boots on. He will live long enough to kill funding for the wall - IMHO.

At a twenty billion dollar cost, it would amount to approximately 0.0056% of one year’s federal fiscal budget.

I based that off a budget from 2016 that was $3.54 trillion dollars.

Savings from the wall being there, would work to pay for itself.

I also believe that as the wall starts being built in earnest, Trump will come up with a plan to get Mexico or people sending money to Mexico to pay for it.

Even a 5% fee on funds sent to Mexico would cover the cost of the wall over time.

As for $1.6 billion being approved, the wall won’t be built in one year. This amount is only the first installment.

Things will fully be revealed in time.

On the other side of the coin ... you never know what the execrable Joe Manchin will do. He might support it, to boost his cred in extremely trumpian West Virginia.

The only reason we are in the position of Trump working with the Deomcrats on DACA and the Wall is because the Republicans have refused to do their jobs and have refused to live up to the campaign promises that got them elected. The GOP are the true obstructionists here. Whether the deal is good or bad, Trump is only doing deals with the Dems because the RINOs won’t do anything.

You're half right. The GOP Congress is not doing their job when it comes to repealing Obamacare. About DACA, The GOP Congress obstructing passage is a good thing.

Haven’t we been kicking around this $1.6 billion number for months now?

Indeed. This is from May:

“The budget proposed by the White House on Tuesday includes $2.6 billion for border security — $1.6 billion of which will be for “bricks and mortar for a wall,” Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney told reporters on Monday.

A source familiar with the budget justification says the money would largely cover just a few dozen miles of wall, tracking what the administration had previously proposed for the $1 billion it asked for unsuccessfully for 2017 construction.

As CNN previously reported, that $1 billion was requested for just 62 miles of border barrier, 14 of which was replacement fencing. “

So a person making $40,000/yr that would be around $52.00.

Privatize the wall and hire a contractor to make sure nobody crosses illegally. Then grant the contractor immunity/amnesty for all legal activity within 1 mile of our southern boarder with regards to the rights of illegal aliens (only).

For $1.6 Billion dollars? I am sure there would be some takers.

Bu the way, what are the details of this budget and how much less is it for a period of the same time than in previous year budgets?

How much are we reducing the spending by in this conservative budget?

I’ll take the answer off air. Thanks.

All of this talk about billions and trillions makes me feel like I’m watching “Cosmos” with Carl Sagan (RIP), lol.

$658.1 billion for the Defense Dept? Sounds like a little spare change out of that account could build us a beautiful wall from coast to coast.

That's wrong. The wall is not THAT expensive. If it were contracted in the private industry, $1.6B might cover the whole thing (depending on type and location).

The Repubs want DACA just as much as the Dems. It’s not two parties, it’s just one pretending to be two in order to hide all their graft and corruption.

I guarantee I could build a hell of a lot more than 62 miles of border wall for $1 billion.
