Obama made them do it.
(they failed to get it done in time to give him credit)
A better new design would be for bumper to bumper natural gas engine and tankage.

So stupid. A coal-powered truck. Should have left the diesel in there, run it at a constant RPM driving a generator, and used electric motors to drive the wheels. Like a train locomotive.

ecall that Tesla is also on the verge of rolling out its own electric semi — in the wake of the Cummins unveil, theres been a fair amount of buzz about how the Indiana-based powertrain company was quicker on the draw than the Silicon Valley outfit.
And Tesla received $billions of our tax dollars. Tesla should be cut offf and required to repay taxpayers for every dime of its profits.

"Diesel to be replaced?..............." More likely replacement is LNG. Ya can refill an LNG tank a lot quicker than you can recharge a battery pack.

“Extra batteries could push that to 300 miles, but its clearly not ready for transcontinental runs — stop-and-go city hauling is what this thing is designed for.”
A semi with only 100 mi range is borderline worthless.

Europe is. Banning combustion engines in the future, but they have more nuclear plants than we do. Hurricane Irma revealed the true shortcomings of plug in cars. Hybrids, would work there, but not plug ins.

A county I do contract work for was replacing all county vehicles (except dump trucks) with CNG. The survey crews f550 had a range of a whopping 80 miles. Not too practical in a county 30 miles wide. Spent many hours returning to home fueling station.
After just 2 years they have dumped that idea

100 miles isn’t enough, not even for local P&D.

We’ll see you have to have three of them to replace one diesel. And the battery disposal is going to be a nightmare, and the cost of replacing them will bankrupt a company. But they are going to stop the two tenths of one degree global warming.

Interesting idea, but how are you going to keep LNG cold (-260 °F) in the vehicle, and what do you do with the boil-off when it is not in use?

Anybody reading this thread, know where I can in short time get a diesel generator part ?

And finally, nobody pushing EVs wants to talk about how expensive batteries are to replace.Nor do the ecology people want to talk about how dirty it is to make batteries.
