A lot of this depends on how China and Russia follow through on any sanctions. Only time will tell if they are serious or not, and historically they haven't been serious or have helped North Korea's nuclear program. Russia moving 1,500 people out of the way and China placing a few restrictions on trade is much more than what they have done previously.

Any North Korean nuclear ability that can reach Guam or Hokkaido can hit most major Chinese cities and a few Russian cities like Vladivostok. The idea that North Korean nuclear weapons are aimed at China and Russia as much as the United States has to be on their minds. I don't think they are happy about it.

Sanctions are no more than kicking the can. We can dally around with sanctions and “red lines” for decades, and accomplish nothing.

That is, if Fat Boy allows us to live that long.
