This was more of a Good Samaritan thing, rather than virtue signaling. It started out as a private act of charity -- we wouldn't have known about it, if the intended recipient weren't an insane ax-murderer wannabe. OTOH, virtue signalers like to loudly proclaim their virtue, to all and sundry; while not actually doing any good deeds.
