Probably because it was the best school in San Francisco in the 1940’s for young ladies.
I am a graduate of one of her sister schools run by the Sacred Heart and we were always told about how she went to it.
On Wiki, it says that although she was of Jewish descent, her family practiced the Russian Orthodox faith.
