I’m a bit rusty on Constitutional Law, but which amendment says that the ACLU must give the President Permission for this...???

Where were they when Obama was given a Nobel Peace Prize 11 days before he sent 30,000 troops into Afghanistan?

This vile group that shall not be named is America's premiere lefty/communist legal racketeering outfit. Their opinion doesn't mean squat, and their tax-free status should have been rescinded eight months ago.

The American Civil Liberties Union strongly urges you to uphold the Constitution

Oh, you mean the one they have trashed for decades?

Let me guess, they probably want this guy running North Korea given things like Miranda rights and other related things. It reminds me of the late Christopher Hitchens telling the story of Michael Moore criticizing the efforts against the Taliban and Bin Laden in Afghanistan under Bush 43 as both should have been treated as innocent until proven guilty, as is usually the American way.

Well at least they are consistent, they were saying this every day of Obama’s presidency.

We’ve been in a state of war with North Korea since 1950. There is only a ceasefire, which N Korea has repeatedly broken and disavowed.

Technically the war has never ended, yes.

You mean like only Congress can authorize changes to immigration policy (”dreamers”) or only Congress can change Obamacare to let the federal run exchanges on its own? Things like that?

Anymore?
“I am for socialism, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the state itself as an instrument of violence and compulsion. I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class and the sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is of course the goal.”

— Roger Nash Baldwin, ACLU founder
The ACLU never was for any of the Bill of Rights or any of the Constitution.

McCain and Graham would get authorization passed as soon as Trump might ask for it. Those two have been in search of a war with someone, anyone, since Obama took office in 2009.

The North Koreans have to get permission from OUR Congress before they may engage in military action? Since when have they ever waited for that?

Adolf Hitler did not get permission from the US Congress to start sinking our merchant ships in 1940 and 1941. Neither did the Japanese.

Even after the declaration of war, the US Congress never gave either the Germans or the Japanese the authority to sink or capture our ships at sea.

The ACLU should get their thinking straight.

well technically we are still at war, another lame example of how Korea has been handled, imagine ending ww2 with Germany and japan with a cease fire

No, we have been participating in a U.N. police action. Interesting to see the U.N. charter seems to have taken precedence in this forum over the US Constitution.

Technically, I think we’re still “at war” with North Korea, just taking a long, long, cease fire. So, there’s no new war to declare.

I was going to post something similar but deleted it. North Korea is currently in a state of war with the U.N., and currently in a negotiated ceasefire. The US, as a member of that fine organization, and the heavy lifter, got deeply involved early on.

Even more reasons the ACLU (and its vaunted lawyers?!) are wrong.

Wut - did the wiki page on North Korea not say that?

Muammar Gaddafi wonders where the hell the ACLU was during Obama’s administration.
