A cop shot an Ohio news photographer after confusing his camera and tripod for a weapon, according to the paper.
The Clark County Sheriffs Office deputy shot New Carlisle News photog Andy Grimm in the side as he unloaded a tripod from his vehicle to snap pictures of a traffic stop around 10 p.m. Monday.
Without warning, the deputy opened fire as Grimm was setting up the tripod. The photographer said he and the deputy knew each other.

Training Target Ping.
But was it a High Capacity imaging device??
this is why former military shouldn’t be civilian cops.
there should be a waiting period or something.
Wow!
Cops are hitting new lows everyday...
I DO understand the confusion.
In the dark, a tripod, that is completely in its compact mode, absolutely looks like a gun.
I take a lot of night sky photos, and have always thought that if it came to it, and someone was trying to ambush me outside, that I would either pretend like the tripod was a rifle....or just club the guy with it.
What????
I read the article. I didn’t read that the cop was prior service. And even if he was, I think you’re confusing correlation with causation.
The cop new him so he knew it was a camera. He didn’t want his actions during the traffic stop to be filmed/taped. His problem is the guy lived.
From the story, the cop and reporter are friends and know each other...
No, no officer. It is a Canon, not a cannon.
Was this deputy former military? I must have missed that detail in the story.
Shot a “journalist”......ok give the cop a break
Thread Winner.
Oops! Likely not going to be friends anymore.
Do I need to read the rest of the article to find excuses for this kind of stupidity and criminal negligence?

Sounds like photographers better start wearing blaze orange!
Cop’s got a lot of ‘splainin’ to do...
They knew each other. I’ll bet it was attempted murder with one of the lamest excuses ever. The cop is expecting the blue wall to protect him.
