The son of Alabama co-offensive coordinator Mike Locksley was killed Sunday in Maryland.
Howard County Police said Meiko Locksley, 25, was found outside his Columbia, Md., home around 10:30 p.m. Sunday. He was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma, where he died overnight, Baltimore TV station WMAR reported.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike, (his wife) Ms. Kia and the entire Locksley family over this tragedy," Alabama coach Nick Saban said Monday. "We'll do everything we can to support Mike and his family in this time of tragedy."
Police said in a news release that "multiple callers reported hearing a single gunshot in the neighborhood" where Locksley was living. A neighbor who thought she heard a firecracker told WMAR she went outside and discovered Locksley lying on the sidewalk with his head bleeding. Police have not yet identified a suspect or motive for the shooting.
Mike Locksley is a Washington, D.C., native who coached at Maryland from 2012-15 before joining the Alabama staff last year. Meiko was the second oldest of his four children.

My daughter was shot in 2016. The baby girl. She wasnt shot because of her skin color. She was shot because a drug dealer thought her life was worth nothing.

He fell into somewhat of a bad crowd here in Albuquerque. Did his senior year of high school here and was on the UNM Lobos, but a friend of his was arrested for DWI using a car Locksley (the coach) owned and the friend said was loaned to him by Locksley. It was denied, but Locksley lost his coaching job the next day and really no more details came out on the incident.
It’s a shame this happened. No one deserves to lose a child and I can’t imagine how parents cope.

This must have happened in one of the better areas of Columbia. When I lived there, my area was an island between substantial wild areas. Gunshots at night were common. Police usually did not even respond, because actually crime was not common.
Uh uh, this is Wilde Lake. WL always sucked, as does Oakland Mills. Where he was shot was right by the “village center” (originally and more recently known more as Joseph Square than “Harper’s Choice” as it came to be). I go there frequently just driving by after work or to get McD’s or banking.
Columbia has always been proudly “diverse”, and that includes Section 8 and the like. Those 2 “villages” are full of them.
I know; I’ve been living around fascist-fantasy Kolumbia my whole life.
They think they are so great and still worship St. James of Rouse. But they actually largely stink. The only great thing is the trails - when not being used by thugs as get-aways.
Oh, and BTW, now we are (proudly!) full of Moslems. Mosque on 108. Scary.
