HURRICANE IRMA is bearing down on a string of Caribbean islands amid fears that it could barrel towards the USA next. Here are live updates on the path and the latest weather models.
Bringing you the latest Hurricane Irma path updates, storm track, weather models, the latest forecasts, tracking maps and videos as the storm heads towards the Caribbean.
Hurricane Warnings have been issued for nearly a dozen Caribbean islands as Hurricane Irma brings dangerous winds, storm surge and torrential rain across the Atlantic.
There is an increasing chance that Hurricane Irma could impact Florida, although it is early to say what 'direct impacts' there could be to the US mainland.
We will have the very latest Hurricane Irma news in one place, updated throughout the day and night until the storm has passed.
Here are live updates from the the NOAA, National Hurricane Center (NHC) and the National Weather Service (NWS) as well as the most advanced weather models from around the world.
There is an increasing chance of seeing some impacts from Irma in the Florida Peninsula and the Florida Keys later this week and this weekend.
In addition, rough surf and dangerous marine conditions will begin to affect the southeastern US coast by later this week.
Otherwise, it is still too early to determine what direct impacts Irma might have on the continental United States.
However, everyone in hurricane-prone areas should ensure that they have their hurricane plan in place, as we are now near the peak of the season.
9.57am CDT: Hurricane Warnings issued
Hurricane Warnings have been issued for parts of the Leeward Islands as tropical-storm force winds approach the Caribbean.
The NHC said: Preparations should be rushed to completion, as tropical-storm force winds are expected to first arrive in the hurricane warning area by late Tuesday.
Hurricane Watches have also been issued for the British and US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico where gales arrive by early Wednesday.
The NHC added: Irma could directly affect Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas, and Cuba as a dangerous major hurricane later this week.
11pm: Florida should be 'paying attention to Irma'
Meteorologist Jeff Lindner, who has been dealing with flooding in Harris County, Houston, said Florida should watch the path of Hurricane Irma.
Asked if he was concerned about Irma, he tweeted: Not for us at the moment...but FL and the SE US should be paying attention.
now tracking much further south than prior forecasts ... if it shoots the gap between cuba and florida and goes into the gulf this could get really nasty

As we continue to monitor Hurricane Irma, families should make sure their Disaster Supply Kits are ready today. http://floridadisaster.org/supplykit.htm
Hmmmmm......
They always seem to go West.
That seems to be a constant.
The rest of his timeline today (@BigJoeBastardi) is rife with comparisons to the track of hurricane Donna from 1960.
Yeah, a gulf storm would be really nasty.
The silver lining is that it looks like a direct hit on the capital of the communist paradise. Perfect excuse for an invasion of the island by the Cajun Navy.
Pulled out the generator to make sure it’s up and running...
Bought some more extension cords...
Got 25 gallons of fuel...
Got some cases of water...
Ready to rumble...
Don’t forget to clean the guns and check ammo supply.
I wonder if Cuba will try to use their sonic ray on it
Local Publix is down to bubbling and imported waters. Hard to find fuel containers in many places, and plywood is flying off the shelves. I’m in the Tampa Bay area. People are paying attention, esp. after Harvey.
Thanks for these updates, and please keep them coming.
Bttt
Can’t say I’ve ever seen a track forecast with a 90 degree turn.
Monitoring
It’s because the SE is about to have the protection of a cold front over it.
The high pressure bubble will suck the low pressure system northward as soon as it gets anywhere near it.

I’m getting a tad nervous in Mobile, Al. Starting a planning plan.
If it gets into the Gulf you can bet people will be prepared. Ai least it won’t hit Houston. There’s a cold front coming in that will push it away. Of course, the cold front could stall.
See my post above. Cold front IS the wall.
p.s. Then open coconuts and eat for food.
