After Christie, we have Phil Murphy, another Goldman Sachs liberal, like Corzine, but only with half the brains.

Christie, believe it or not, is still better than what is coming.

If I were Christie, I’d do it. Screw the critics, haters gonna hate anyway (some of whom are on FR). Gain a Republican seat any way you can and help MAGA.

if Menendez has to go and it is up to Christie to appoint some fool, of course he will appoint himself.
It’s either that or become a good humor ice cream truck driver.
Term limits, and few want this boob around.

“He’s apparently got no self control.”

As evidenced by his weigh.

He could withdraw from public life. If he appoints himself there are two possible results: 1.The Senate may refuse to accept his credentials ( longshot ) 2. In 2018 he is defeated by acclamation ( lead pipe cinch )

Worse, the guy they put on had alzheimers (or some other form of dementia). He had previously chosen years before not to run for reelection to the senate because of it. But here he could walk in without campaigning and get the job by default. Pure puppet is all he was. And the NJ Supreme Court ensured he would get elected in clear contradiction of black and white letter of the law. They argued that regardless of the law, voters deserved to have a viable democrat on the ballot even if there was one on the ballot already but he was an unelectable crook.

Corpulent Chris has just guaranteed the Menendez trial will extend past January 18, 2018.

On the other hand the Dems will probably demand that he be allowed to serve as a senator while he is in prison.

Not his whole term. Just long enough for a Democrat to replace Christie and appoint a Democrat to replace Menendez.

The candidate didn’t die. The incumbent, U.S. Senator Bob Torricelli was exposed as a crook and tanked in the polls so the Democrats switched him out on the ballot with former Sen. Frank Lautenberg. It was against New Jersey election law to do that so close to the election but the state Supreme Court ruled for the Democrats.

It’s these kind of thing which discourage decent people from voting.

A former democrat governor of Minnesota tried this. It didn’t work out so well.

After U.S. Senator Walter Mondale was elected vice president in 1976, the governor needed to appoint Mondale’s successor. Anderson agreed with his lieutenant governor, Rudy Perpich, that Anderson would resign as governor, and Perpich, as the new governor, would appoint Anderson senator.

In what became known as the “Minnesota Massacre”, nearly the entire DFL Party ticket was defeated in 1978, including Perpich and the candidates for both U.S. Senate seats, Anderson and Bob Short. Anderson’s arrangement to have himself appointed to the Senate—and Perpich’s role in that appointment—were deemed central factors in the defeats.

Christie had a special primary for Booker in August & special senate election in October rather conflict with his re election in November 2013.
