Nothing new, the media’s been doing this for decades, at least. The difference now is that we have other sources and, to some extent, can do our own investigations.
But back before the Internet, they simply tucked it away. For example, did you know that the replacement of CFCs for something ‘more sustainable’ directly led to the foam coming loose and taking out Columbia (Space Shuttle), or that the largest protests in the United States - certainly with the most arrests, took place in 1992 (over 2,600 arrested - shutting down an entire city), but the national media didn’t even bother covering it real time (any guess what that was).
