With more than 3,300 pounds of weapons, the fierce Super Tucano can swoop in to unleash hefty firepower from above and save lives of warfighters on the ground.
The A-29 Super Tucano turboprop aircraft looks like a Latin spin throwback to the World War II era of iconic American fighters- but make no mistake this aircraft is a modern hybrid of low tech and high tech fit to fight current threats.
The Super Tucano is currently taking part in the U.S. Air Force's exciting Light Attack Experiment. The A-29 that is part of the Experiment is a partnership between Brazilian firm Embraer and U.S. firm Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC). The aircraft is built in Jacksonville, Florida.
The U.S. Air Force has also selected the Super Tucano for Afghanistan.
Providing the best possible close air support for American forces on the ground is incredibly important. Aircraft like the Super Tucano that are participating in the Light Attack Experiment offer some different advantages to deploying fighter jets.

The rules of engagement must change from “I see ‘em” to “I got ‘em”
Throw back to the A-1 Sky Raider. Form follows function.

Or we well kill as many of them as possible every chance we get
It sure is ugly.
Where’s the 30mm cannon?
Doesn’t look like a bad package. My only issue is the Brazilian marque...US manufacturers can’t compete with Brazil? Whatever happened to American ingenuity? As I recall the prototype OV-10 Bronco was cobbled together in somebody’s garage..
I completely love this project. I love ground support and I have been following this project from when they first began speaking about it.
But let me say this:
Afghanis aren’t Arabs but both Arabs and Afghani *despise* fixing things. They are hard-pressed even to fix their own personal rifles which they did not make.
there is some mindset there that maintenance and repairing is stupid or it’s unglamorous.
Nobody does it, so unless our own people are there to refuel and maintain these aircraft in every single way, my prediction is it will all be junk within six months or so of them having it.
So we should understand and be mature about that before any of this aid is given. in other words, it’s not just the airplanes themselves, it’s other things also.

Reminds me of Korea: the AF jets (can’t recall designation) could not provide close support and even with panels out to show our position, often shot up our troops. They brought in the T-6 trainer which did the job.

What can this do that an A-10 cannot do?
Bump for sharing with dear hubby.
200 rounds?? That’s like 15-20 seconds of ordinance. What is going on here?
From what I have read, an A-10 costs about $18.8 mil apiece and $6,000 an hour to operate. A Super Tucano costs $8-14 mil and about $500 an hour to operate.
“Generally, societies that do not find work in and of itself “pleasing to God and requisite to Man,” tend to be highly corrupt (low-education and dogmatic-religion societies also are statistically prone to corruption, and, if all three factors are in play, you may not want to invest in the local stock exchange or tie your foreign policy to successful democratization). The goal becomes the attainment of wealth by any means.”

I saw that. That doesn’t make any sense.
In the back. It provides more thust that the prop so when mounted in the front the plane stops and falls out of the sky. :-)
Maybe not as ugly as the A-10 Warthog, but is the A-29 all that much better?
The A-10 is a flying tank. Coming in at maybe 100 feet off the deck, it can spread havoc with a truck convoy, or even armored carriers. And it can spot them from over the horizon.
