Kris Kobach: Donald Trump needs to end DACA now or face political consequences
Washington Times ^ | Sept 1, 2017 | Sally Persons

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach said Friday that he would advise President Trump to end DACA now, or Mr. Trump will face political consequences.

“The legal question isn’t even a close one. You’ve already had multiple courts say that a similar amnesty that came a few years after DACA was completely illegal,” Mr. Kobach, Kansas Republican, said on Fox News. “It’s a loser. And the president, if he were to continue DACA, would lose in court and politically.”

“It would be a very bad political construction because his base would be cheering against him when his administration loses,” he said.

Mr. Trump has said he wanted to end the program, but has since been open to preserving parts of it in a slower phase-out method. ...

“There is a way the president can do it that does show some compassion for the situation of these people and that is to simply allow them to expire.

The issue is the rule of law.

Obama made up new law.

He can’t do that.

It should have been ended in 2012, but we didn’t have an opposition party to take him to court the day after he did it.

DACA must be ended and the rule of law restored.

Illegal aliens must go home.

It’s a quandry.

President Trump said he would send them back.

Then he said he wouldn’t.

The compassionate thing is to deport all illegal adults (maybe 18 and older) and their children of all ages.

Realistically there is probably not much that can be done with parent-less young illegals who came here under Obama.

Those 18 or older should be deported.

“It should have been ended in 2012, but we didn’t have an opposition party to take him to court the day after he did it.”

And that’s still true today even thought the “then opposition party” is now the “party in power!” You watch, the GOPe (Can you say, Thom Tillis ( POS, NC) try to roll the President on DACA.

And much like the spanking thread we were both on, it is compassionate to the “Dreamers” because it enforces the rule of law and sets expectations for these “Dreamers” that rules are rules and they must be obeyed, both for the good of society, and the good of the individual.

Does anyone believe that Canada, Mexico, Australia, Switzerland, or Sweden--or any other nation--would grant citizenship to illegal immigrants because they have managed to avoid deportation for a long time?

Of Course not.

Let’s see now: Romanticize one group of illegals by naming them “dreamers” and what kind of monster wants to enforce the law against dreamers? One who has no heart, that is for sure, and Pence has assured us that Trump will engage his heart when he makes the decision. Americans who want to dream don’t count.

Only thing left is to call the other thirty million illegals by a catchy name and it is all over.

Exactly. DACA was not authorized by Congress, who has exclusive authority to determine immigration policy under Article 1. If Congress wants Trump to continue the DACA policy, they can pass legislation directing him to do so. I don’t support the DACA policy, but it’s for Congress to decide, not the Executive.

Correct, the GOP is acting more like an opposition party with a Republican President than they ever did with Obama.

Sensationalist headline.

The Kansas Secretary of State’s comments were not confrontational to the President or meant to be, but the headline indicated otherwise.

The unconstitional "law" of Obama must be stopped and Congress can replace it. Recommend that President Trump light a Cherry-Bomb under Congress's arse to get it done.

1) Suspend DACA so no additional applications are received, pro-forma renewal of expiring already-approved DACA's, and develop strong verification processes for future applications and renewals in anticipation of Congress's action.

2) Send direction to congress that their legislation must include no path to citizenship & voting except the legal route, strong verification of identity, age, age at entry, criminal activity, and fraud w/r/t prior employment. In a limited number of fraud cases, full monitary restitution and restoration of stolen identies must be done.

3) Congress must pass the law as above and provide it by 1 January 2018 or the entire DACA program will be over all issued DACA permissions will expire/ not be renewed.

I fear that Trump will take the half measure of discontinuing DACA, but not rescinding it for those it has already applied to. The criticism will rain down from all sides.
