This is a perfect example of incrementalism with a side helping of fearmongering and virtue signaling.
Various parties (who stand to gain monetarily and politically) have made DUI the worst sin in the universe. Whether it is or not can be debated but the point is that people allowed implied consent laws (a ludicrous contradiction), roadblocks, and lowering of BAC limits that are completely untethered from medical science.
Caught up in the mania are the cops. Their superiors beat up on them. The public beats up on them. The feds beat up on them and dangle overtime cash in front of their noses.
After a while, the cops are like Michael Vick’s dogs after a week of being caged up and not fed. They want collars. They want citations. They want a pat on the head for another - wait for it - ‘alcohol related’ accident report even if the only person impaired was a passenger in a car that got hit.
But training idiots can only produce one thing: a trained idiot.
