Rather than echoing calls to impeach President Trump like some of her Democratic colleagues, Sen. Dianne Feinstein told a crowd that with a little bit of change, Trump has the potential to be a good president.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the California Democrat made the remarks during an hour-long conversation with former East Bay Rep. Ellen Tauscher during a Commonwealth Club of California event at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco.
The paper described Feinstein, who served as mayor of San Francisco for a decade, as wildly popular but said even she can get into trouble for saying anything nice about the president.
The question is whether he can learn and change, Feinstein told the crowd. If so, I believe he can be a good president.
She also warned that the audience better expect to deal with Trump for all four years of his term.
The comments did not sit well with the crowd.
That sort of talk is never heard in Democratic circles, where California Congress members already are talking about what they see as the need to impeach Trump or remove him from office via the 25th Amendment. The crowd reacted with stunned silence, broken only with scattered Nos and a few hisses and some nervous laughter. Even with that reaction, Feinstein doubled down, saying, Well have to see if he can forget himself enough and have the type of empathy and direction the country needs.
If he doesnt, there are things that can be done, she added.
Feinstein has certainly dished out her fair share of criticism toward the president on everything from his recent pardon of Sheriff Joe Arpaio to his transgender military ban.
Still, she reminded the audience that its not wise to be in attack mode all the time.
I have to work with people and a punch in the nose is not going to do it, she said.
like if he’d just be a bit more liberal and kow tow to demoncrats, he could potentially be a good president. Smells like she’s seeing the light (or the voter base) but trying to play both sides.
She had a point. There was the chance but it appears that the insider conspiracy is working as planned. With the CONgress being uncooperative, we may be in for a slow go. Obstructors to the right of me, obstructors to the left..........
Mcmaster needs to go.
During one of the Senate hearings, I heard Diane ask if anyone had tried to help President Trump understand his role as President and the process in DC. The Panel all said, “No”.
I knew she was in trouble then.
One of the side effects of senility is brief moments of lucid thought!
If these wackos are pi$$ed at Trump now, wait until he’s re-elected in 2020.
Yep, that was a big flip, to me. Wall, meet writing.
Stay hopeful and positive. Pendulum is swinging. Karma is.
Remember that RATS are opportunistic and not principled and this behavior is easily explained. No real cooperation is going to occur, except to the extent it serves RAT party interests. And the next time DJT does something that the RATS dislike, Feinswine will dump on him extra hard - oh I am SO disappointed, etc. I gave him a chance, etc.
Could it be Trump grabbed the Democrats by the Pakistanis?
Feinstein has just enough old school Democrat left in her that something lucid occasionally slips out. She already gets attacked as California’s “reactionary” Senator - this one should put her on an Antifa target list.
Yeah, treasonous b@st@rds, arrest them, try them and send them to GITMO.
All that this informs me, is that the Deep State has got him under control.
...or Pelosi is doubling down to further agitate her leftist base when Trump doesn’t play her game.
She probably thinks Trump is Bush and Bush is obama...
Oh wait, that would be Pelosi.
Same diff...
Seemingly some leading Democrats are starting to say “nice’ things about Trump, a prerequisite to restoring the Dim party to some form of sanity which would start to restore the party in some eyes....................I hope I’m wrong.
She is 84 years old. How many 80+ year old senators do we have?
Too many!
He just needs to replace the last of his supporters with Obama appointees.
My guess is that Feinstein is not planning to run for re-election when this term ends.
