As I understand it, the church was also flooded and that’s why folks weren’t allowed in. Maybe, just maybe, they were able to clear the church of water and make it usable by the evacuees.

I have been watching local storm coverage as I live in the area. Along the bottom of the screen, a running list of shelters is constantly displayed. I have seen schools, churches and large places like the downtown Convention Center listed as shelters; have not seen one mosque listed.
(By the way, it is probably very fortunate that there were not any leftover remnants of the Obama-era U.S. Navy ("the crashing crackpots") cruising around, when Noah sailed the seven seas!) :-)
