Arizona politics might get a lot more interesting after former Sheriff Joe Arpaio mused to the Washington Examiner on Monday about challenging Senator Jeff Flake for his Senate seat.

The former Maricopa County sheriff told the Washington Examiner he’s upset at negative reaction to the Friday pardon, and that he feels Republican politicians are insufficiently supportive of the president, who he calls a great man.
“I could run for mayor, I could run for legislator, I could run for Senate,” Arpaio said Monday. One particular race, however, is likely to gain significant attention: the GOP primary next year facing Flake, R-Ariz., a forceful Trump critic.
“I’m sure getting a lot of people around the state asking me” to challenge Flake, said Arpaio, who served 24 years as sheriff before losing reelection in 2016. “All I’m saying is the door is open and we’ll see what happens. I’ve got support. I know what support I have.”
Arpaio said he swore off another candidacy in January, when he left office, but that “with what I’ve seen happening in recent months, especially what’s happening with our president, I said, ‘Hey, why not?'”

Pretty stupid, he’s older than McCain! Don’t let the GOP-E find a way to split the protest vote against Flake. Get behind Ward and GET IT DONE. No more 5-10 people running on ego. Ward might not be perfect but we MUST defeat the GOP-E!
I’m sure Flake would love him to. The more candidates in the primary, the better chance Flake has of coming out ahead.

Be far better to support and campaign for Ward. Be far more effective to not split anti Flake vote.
I like the guy and, if he was 15-20 years younger, I’d contribute to his campaign.
But the guy is 85, and his wife is sick. Please, Joe, spend time with your wife and family. You’ve done well, VERY well, for the citizens of your county, state and nation. We appreciate it in ways that cannot be expressed. But you, your wife and your family deserve to have you at home for the remainder of your days. God bless you.
No, Sheriff. You were fantastic in your position as Sheriff, it’s time to allow the next generation to take control. This may be his ego talking. The Dems have lot of this logjamming starting with Nancy Pelosi.
Or not even then, love Sheriff Joe but he’s past his prime. Maybe best to talk this up as part of rebuilding his base of support, and then throw his endorsement behind Kelli Ward and younger candidates in the next primaries.
However, should McCain leave the Senate before his term ends in 2022, the governor would decide who fills the vacancy.
Knowing Sheriff Joe might be an option just guarantees McCain would rather die in the saddle than do the honorable thing.
The ex sheriff is 85 years old, not 81 and his wife has cancer. He
needs to settle back, be with his wife and enjoy their remaining years.
Please run, Joe. PLEASE!
