Islam has done this repeatedly, from the Buddhas of Bamiyan to ISIS destroying artifacts in museums. The fundamentalists who wanted to destroy the pyramids were told no by the state because tourism was too important to average Muslims’ survival.
The Great Leap Forward in China did exactly this, while the French Revolution had similar demands down to changing the calendar.
Social justice warriors are one more totalitarian ideology seeking not only total control of the present but erasure of the past to tighten control.
