You can buy the statue for $250,000 and do with it what you like. Maybe some FReepers should put together a GoFundMe campaign to raise the money to haul the statue off to a foundry for meltdown.
One thing I’ve noticed about Trump is that he doesn’t try to change social values, morals or culture. He focuses on security and jobs and only talks about diversity, abortion or freedom of religion to the extent that they impact jobs and security.
The issue of transgenders in the military received his attention only to the extent that it would affect standards of military readiness.
The issue of racism and hate in Charlottesville became an issue only because it sparked violence and became a law and order issue.
His interest in appointing conservative judges has little to do with overturning Roe v Wade and everything to do with liberals “legislating from the bench” in order to prevent him from implementing economic and security reforms.
I doubt he thinks in terms of constitutionality, or limited government, or individual freedom - he just knows the swamp needs to be drained in order to get the economy working again.
I believe leftist big government “solutions” are the cause of our economic and security problems, and that “conservatives” are in essence those of us who oppose liberals.
So it stands to reason that our pragmatic and intelligent problem-solving POTUS might seek to undo these liberal big government solutions without necessarily thinking of himself as a conservative.
Perhaps it is Trump’s lack of ideological focus that allows him to tolerate non-conservative thought and expression - as long as it does not get in the way of jobs and security, he doesn’t really care one way or the other what people on his team think or say.
You know, you’re right.
Except the statue removal part. Those are being destroyed, I assume?
Or are most going to museums?
Plagiarist? Knew the other two.
What did he plagiarize? It’s very easy to believe he did.
WHY IS IT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?!!?!?!
I DIDN’T KNOW THAT!!!!!
WTF!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!
Watch the blood pressure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-)
.
Very good analysis. Not being an idealogue gives Trump broad appeal. I am all for hiring the best person regardless of his or her political philosophy. However, we elected Trump to do what we think needs to done. We didn’t elect him to think for us. He promised to do job abc. Deliver on abc and he will be rewarded with a second term. He shouldn’t hire people from the other camp to decide whether abc should be done and then decide to do the opposite of abc. Case in point, Afganistan.
You’re right, he should be judged by whether his actions are consistant with his campaign promises.
To be honest, the issue I’m clear as a bell about and feel angry about is the over-sized intrusive government, redistributive taxation and regulation, corruption, lobbyists, crony capitalism, fiat money - in short, draining the swamp.
I care very much about security and national defense and but I’m not always sure I know what I want to happen with specific relationships, like Afghanistan. I do care, but I sometimes feel conflicted about whether we are really protecting our national interests or there is some other agenda. I’ve been fooled so often it’s hard for me to know what’s right - much less judge Trump.
With domestic policy - tax and regulatory reform - I have no such doubts. So far, I like what I’m seeing - Trump is trying to do the right things and although the RINOs and Dems and the courts are obstructing, his team seems to be behind him.
I don’t really care if his cabinet members disagree - or say politically correct nonsense publicly - as long as Trump himself continues to fight for deregulation and “the biggest tax cut in history” and repeal of Obamacare.
LOL - nice to agree...
